Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President, Ibrahim Gusau, has strongly denied reports suggesting that the federation influenced the selection of the Super Eagles squad for this month’s Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Gossip News Now reports that head coach Eric Chelle reduced his provisional 54-man list to a final 28-man squad on Thursday, December 11.

Following the release of the squad, speculation emerged over the selection process, with some critics alleging that powerful figures within the NFF pushed for the inclusion of certain players.

Speaking during a radio interview with former Nigeria international Segun Odegbami on Eagle 102.5 FM, Gusau warned fans and analysts against spreading unsubstantiated claims.

“People need to be careful about what they say, especially on social media,” Gusau said.
“The environment is heavily polluted, with agents everywhere.

“I will never tell a coach to select this player or that player. I have never even stayed in the same hotel with the national team since becoming NFF president. I don’t want to be a distraction.”

Gusau emphasized that squad selection is entirely the responsibility of the coaching staff, adding that the federation has intentionally stepped back to allow the technical crew operate independently, without pressure or interference.
