The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has pledged to prevent Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, from securing a second term in the 2027 general elections.

Gossip News Now reports that Wike made the declaration during a visit to Ahoada West Local Government Area (LGA) of Rivers State on Sunday, stressing that he would not heed any directives regarding Fubara’s re-election bid.

According to the minister, Governor Fubara had twice failed to honour agreements, warning that the missteps of 2023 would not be repeated.

Reflecting on his tenure as Rivers State Governor, Wike highlighted the state’s assertiveness and national respect, recalling instances where Rivers successfully challenged the federal government on key matters.

He said, “I have heard people say that they will call me and give me instructions. Let me be very clear: there is nothing like instruction when it comes to Rivers State. Nobody will dictate to me.

“You had the first agreement and it was broken. You had a second agreement, and it was also violated. Which instruction should I accept next? We will not repeat that mistake.

“This is not about me personally. As Minister of the FCT, I am very comfortable.

“It is about the people of Rivers State. When I was governor, the state commanded respect nationally. When I spoke, it was clear that Rivers State was in charge.

“I challenged the Federal Government on critical issues, and we won. Now that the opposition has weakened, everyone is shouting about their mandate—why wasn’t that same energy shown when it mattered?”
