Content creator and entertainer Chinonso Ukah, popularly known as Nons Miraj, has opened up about why she decided to retire the Ada Jesus character, which first brought her widespread attention.
Speaking on a podcast with Taymesan, Nons Miraj said that while the persona helped her gain popularity, it eventually limited how people perceived her. She wanted to evolve and showcase different aspects of her personality.
“After the whole Ada Jesus thing, I was like, ‘What do I do again?’ because people will get tired of you turning people into yam and fish. I got tired; people were thinking I was old. My followers became old men, and I said I need to do something that will make them see all this fineness,” she explained.
Nons Miraj noted that the Ada Jesus character attracted a specific type of audience, mainly older men, which no longer aligned with her goals. She wanted to reach a broader demographic and attract personal connections who appreciated her beyond comedy skits.
“Men were attracted to the Ada Jesus character, but older men. I needed the fine bad boy to enter my DM, spend money on me, and let’s see if we can have a relationship,” she added.
The entertainer emphasized that the move was also part of her effort to grow her brand and explore projects beyond the character that made her famous. As the host of The Hunt Game Show, Nons Miraj has built a reputation in comedy, acting, and digital content creation.
She reflected on the pressures of public life, noting that success often comes with responsibilities and personal investments that many do not see.
“People focus on large deals without understanding the responsibilities that come with them. You have to invest in projects and manage personal commitments, which can be challenging despite appearances,” she said.
Nons Miraj also touched on personal relationships, explaining that some friendships changed due to expectations and feelings of entitlement, prompting her to set boundaries to protect her energy.
