Nottingham Forest have appointed Sean Dyche as their new manager in a move aimed at reviving their struggling Premier League campaign. The 54-year-old former Everton and Burnley boss becomes the club’s third manager of the season, succeeding Ange Postecoglou, whose brief 40-day tenure ended after a 3–0 loss to Chelsea on Saturday.

Dyche, who has signed a contract running until 2027, is set to take charge for the first time on Thursday when Forest face FC Porto in the Europa League.

A former Nottingham Forest youth player, Dyche returns to the City Ground tasked with stabilising a side currently sitting 18th in the Premier League, having collected just five points from eight matches.

He has been out of management since his departure from Everton in January, following a two-year spell at Goodison Park. Forest reportedly considered Fulham’s Marco Silva and former Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini before settling on Dyche, citing his top-flight experience, leadership, and reputation for discipline and defensive organisation.

Announcing the appointment, the club said Dyche embodies the qualities needed to guide Forest through a critical period.

“Sean Dyche brings the ideal blend of character, tactical intelligence, and proven success to lead the club into its next chapter,” the statement read.
“Having managed over 330 Premier League matches, he is known for building teams with defensive solidity, resilience, and strength from set pieces — qualities that match the identity of this squad.”

The club also highlighted Dyche’s personal ties to Nottingham and his understanding of the club’s culture as factors behind the decision.

“As a former Forest youth player who lives locally, Dyche understands the pride, values, and passion that define this club and its supporters,” the statement added.

Dyche will be joined by his long-time assistants Ian Woan and Steve Stone — both former Forest players — who worked alongside him at Burnley and Everton. The duo are expected to help reconnect the team with fans and re-establish the fighting spirit associated with Dyche’s most successful sides.

Forest’s decision to change managers for the third time in under three months reflects the club’s turbulent start to the 2025–26 season. After returning to European competition under Nuno Espírito Santo, expectations soared, but inconsistency and off-field instability have derailed their progress.

Dyche’s arrival marks a shift toward structure, discipline, and collective effort — qualities the club’s hierarchy believes will steer Forest away from relegation danger and back toward stability and competitiveness.
