Ange Postecoglou’s turbulent spell at Nottingham Forest has come to an abrupt end after the club confirmed his dismissal following Saturday’s 3–0 home defeat to Chelsea at the City Ground.
The Australian coach, appointed on September 9, lasted just 39 days in the role — making his tenure one of the shortest in Premier League history. During that time, Forest failed to win a single match across all competitions, recording two draws and six losses.
In an official statement, the club announced:
“Nottingham Forest Football Club can confirm that after a series of disappointing results and performances, Ange Postecoglou has been relieved of his duties as head coach with immediate effect. The club will make no further comment at this time.”
Postecoglou’s appointment had been expected to steady the ship after a poor start to the season, but results quickly deteriorated. Under his management, Forest collected just one point from five league fixtures, leaving the team 17th in the table — one point above the relegation zone.
His brief tenure was plagued by defensive disorganization and attacking inefficiency. Forest conceded 10 goals from set pieces — the worst record in the league during that stretch — and allowed 16 goals in the opening 10 minutes of second halves. Offensively, they found the net only once in five league games.
Among the damaging results were defeats to Arsenal, Sunderland, Newcastle United, and Chelsea, with only draws against Burnley and Real Betis offering minimal consolation.
Postecoglou departs with an unfortunate record — becoming the first Nottingham Forest manager in history to go winless in his opening eight matches in charge. The club is expected to announce an interim replacement in the coming days as they look to halt their slide down the Premier League table.
