Nottingham Forest Reach Agreement to Sign Man City Goalkeeper Stefan Ortega

Nottingham Forest have finalised an agreement to bring in Manchester City goalkeeper Stefan Ortega, with the deal reportedly valued at up to £500,000, as the club moves swiftly to resolve a pressing goalkeeping crisis.

Forest’s search for a new shot-stopper intensified after John Victor sustained a serious knee injury, which is expected to rule him out for the rest of the season.

The City Ground outfit had earlier considered a move for Wolves goalkeeper Jose Sa, but attention has now shifted firmly to Ortega, with negotiations advancing rapidly.

The 33-year-old German international is currently third in the pecking order at Manchester City, behind Gianluigi Donnarumma and James Trafford, and has yet to make an appearance for Pep Guardiola’s side this season. With his contract set to expire in the summer, the move represents a low-risk acquisition for Forest.

Since joining Manchester City in 2022, Ortega has made 56 appearances and played a key role in the club’s Premier League title-winning campaign in 2024. He featured in 22 matches last season, including appearances in the Club World Cup and the FA Cup final defeat to Crystal Palace, highlighting his experience at elite level.

Beyond their goalkeeping concerns, Nottingham Forest are also looking to reinforce other areas of the squad. Sean Dyche’s side are reportedly pushing to sign Inter Milan midfielder Davide Frattesi, with discussions centred on an initial loan move that includes an option to buy.

The 26-year-old Italy international has earned 33 caps for his national team and has featured 19 times for Inter this season.

Forest have already completed the loan signing of Napoli striker Lorenzo Lucca and recently had a £35 million offer for Crystal Palace forward Jean-Philippe Mateta turned down.

Currently sitting 17th in the Premier League, Nottingham Forest are also preparing for upcoming Europa League play-off fixtures.
