The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has issued a stern warning to clubs employing time-wasting tactics through their ball boys, announcing a fine of ₦1 million for any team found guilty of such behavior.
The league’s Chief Operating Officer, Davidson Owumi, made this known in an official circular sent to all participating clubs, emphasizing that the act violates the principles of fair play and damages the league’s reputation.
“Any team found encouraging this act will be sanctioned with a fine of One Million Naira, as such behavior is contrary to fair play and brings the game into disrepute,” the statement read.
Owumi further described the practice as misconduct under NPFL regulations, noting that the league remains committed to upholding professionalism, discipline, and integrity throughout the ongoing season.
Auwalu Returns to Training for Kano Pillars
In a separate development, Kano Pillars midfielder Auwalu Ali Malam has returned to training after being sidelined by injury since the start of the 2025/2026 NPFL season.
The 24-year-old last featured in Pillars’ Matchday 2 fixture against Wikki Tourists before sustaining an injury that kept him out for several weeks. The club confirmed his return in a social media post:
“Recovery process: Auwalu Ali Malam, aka Ka Ci Kowa, is back with the rest of the team doing some light training.”
His return is a major boost for Sai Masu Gida as they prepare for their weekend clash against Barau FC at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano.
Kun Khalifat FC Target Survival After Impressive Win
Meanwhile, Kun Khalifat FC have reaffirmed their determination to retain their NPFL status despite a challenging start to the season.
The Owerri-based side recorded a surprise victory over nine-time champions Enyimba FC last week but maintained that they remain focused on their long-term goal — survival.
“We are not comfortable yet! It’s not time to relax — it’s not yet Uhuru,” the club wrote on 𝕏 (formerly Twitter).
“We’ll keep fighting till the end. Every game is a final, and we remain committed to the promise we made to Imolites and our dear fans.”
Kun Khalifat have so far amassed eight points from eight matches and will travel to Yenagoa for a Matchday 9 showdown against Bayelsa United at the Samson Siasia Stadium on Sunday.
