The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has received commendation for its impactful execution of host community development projects across the oil-producing Niger Delta region over the past four years.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the Niger Delta Citizens Alliance (NDCA), through its President, Kingsley Charles, and Secretary-General, Ogbobetta Nelli, praised the Commission for driving progress through the Host Community Development Trusts (HCDTs) established under the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA).

According to the NDCA, the NUPRC has successfully supervised the disbursement of over ₦373 billion from the Host Community Development Fund, facilitating the completion of more than 500 projects across key oil-producing states, including Rivers, Bayelsa, Delta, and Akwa Ibom.

The projects reportedly include hospitals, schools, clean water systems, and vocational training centres — all of which have helped strengthen relationships between oil companies and host communities.

The group also applauded the Commission’s HostComply digital dashboard, noting that it has improved transparency and accountability by making project funds traceable and publicly accessible, thereby reducing fund diversion and mismanagement.

The NDCA urged oil companies operating in the region to remain compliant with their obligations under the PIA, particularly the mandatory 3% annual contribution to the Host Community Development Trust Fund, emphasizing that such compliance is vital for sustaining ongoing development and fostering community trust.

Marking NUPRC’s fourth anniversary, the group described the Commission as a model institution committed to community-driven development and effective regulation since its establishment in 2021.
