The Lagos State Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Alhaji Mustapha Adekunle, popularly known as Sego, has strongly condemned the violent acts allegedly carried out by union member Shamsideen Adio, also known as “Shamelon.”

Shamelon reportedly assaulted a dispatch rider and fatally attacked Adeshina Rahman in Lagos Island. Following the incidents, he has been arrested by law enforcement authorities.

In a formal statement made available to Lagos Reporters, Sego confirmed the arrest and expressed deep disappointment in the conduct of someone once regarded as his loyalist. He, however, distanced the union from the attacks, stressing that the actions were entirely personal and did not reflect the values of the NURTW.

“While I once trusted his loyalty, I was deeply bitter and disappointed that he could engage in such acts. I want to make it clear that all his actions are his own and do not represent the NURTW in any way,” Sego declared.

The NURTW chairman further urged security agencies to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the matter. He assured that beyond the ongoing legal process, the suspect would also face the union’s internal disciplinary measures.

Reiterating the union’s zero tolerance for violence, Sego emphasized:

“The NURTW does not condone violence or any unlawful acts. No matter the closeness or loyalty of any member, I will not support maltreatment or unlawful conduct.”

He extended condolences to the family of the late Adeshina Rahman, pledging that the Lagos State NURTW would offer support to them during this difficult period.

Sego concluded by reaffirming the union’s commitment to peace, order, and the safety of residents, warning that indiscipline and violence by members will not be tolerated under his leadership.
