Former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, has praised former President Olusegun Obasanjo for his significant impact on Nigeria’s democratic development.

Tambuwal emphasized that Obasanjo’s long-standing dedication to democracy and nation-building continues to serve as an example for future generations.

He made these remarks while expressing deep gratitude to Obasanjo for attending and chairing the colloquium held to mark his 60th birthday.

According to Tambuwal, the former president played an essential role in strengthening democratic values in both Nigeria and across the African continent.

He noted that Obasanjo’s status as an elder statesman, coupled with his unwavering commitment to nation-building, remains a guiding standard for younger leaders.

Writing on 𝕏, Tambuwal stated:
“I must express my sincere appreciation to former President, His Excellency, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR, for honouring my 60th birthday colloquium with his presence and for graciously accepting to serve as Chairman of the event.

“President Obasanjo’s contributions toward the growth and consolidation of democracy in Nigeria and Africa cannot be overstated.

“As an elder statesman, his steadfast dedication to democratic principles and nation-building serves as a model for generations to come.

“I deeply appreciate his kind words and goodwill. AWT.”

Meanwhile, Tambuwal has countered a recent statement by former Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, claiming that former presidential candidate Peter Obi is the driving force of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Tambuwal insisted that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, and former Minister Rotimi Amaechi will support whichever candidate emerges as the ADC presidential flag bearer.

During an interview on Channels Television, he explained that the ADC coalition intends to conduct a transparent and credible primary election.

He said, “I have been involved in the coalition, and there is a possibility of transitioning into the ADC. I am consulting with stakeholders in Sokoto and across the country for us to reach a final decision.

“However, I do not engage in public disagreements with Ayo Fayose. I have said this before, and I stand by it.

“I believe the ADC leadership, from inception, agreed to hold a very transparent primary election, and once that happens, everyone in the coalition will stand behind the chosen candidate.

“Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rotimi Amaechi—every one of us will give support. I have played a major role in the coalition, and it would be insensitive for me to begin urging people to vote this way or that way at this moment.”
