Odumeje Tells Davido: Your Impact Is Bigger Than a Grammy

Popular Nigerian cleric Chukwuemeka Ohanaemere, widely known as Odumeje, has offered words of encouragement to Afrobeats superstar Davido following his loss at the 2026 Grammy Awards.

During a recent church service, Odumeje emphasized that awards cannot measure the true influence and success of an artist. He told the congregation that Davido’s career, fanbase, and contributions to music already place him above any trophy.

Celebrating Davido’s Achievements

The cleric described the singer as a rare talent, noting that his journey in the music industry is an achievement in itself. According to Odumeje, the recognition Davido has earned through his impact on fans and the global music scene surpasses the value of any award ceremony.

He urged the singer to remain unshaken by criticism or disappointment, advising him to keep drawing inspiration and producing music that surprises and inspires the world.

Odumeje also cautioned Davido against focusing on negative voices or places where his efforts are unappreciated. “You have already reached a high level in life. Don’t let anyone reduce your drive or your value,” he told the congregation.

Grammy Nomination Context

Davido was nominated for Best African Music Performance at the 68th Grammy Awards for his song With You, a collaboration with Omah Lay. Other nominees included Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Ayra Starr, with Tyla ultimately winning the award for the second consecutive year.

Despite not winning, Odumeje stressed that Davido’s legacy, talent, and influence make him bigger than any award, reinforcing the message that personal impact outweighs external accolades.
