Popular Nollywood actor Imeh Bishop Umoh, widely known as Okon of Lagos, has called on President Bola Tinubu to prosecute Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmed Gumi over alleged terrorism-related activities.
Gumi, known for advocating negotiations with terrorists in their hideouts and defending their actions, has drawn widespread criticism.
In an open letter addressed to the president, shared on Instagram, Umoh described Gumi as a “banditry apologist” and insisted he should face prosecution if found guilty of terrorism.
“No responsible government negotiates with terrorists,” the actor wrote. “Sheikh Gumi is a proven banditry apologist. It is visible to the blind and audible to the deaf that there is a huge deficiency — if not a total lack of courage — to arrest, investigate, and prosecute Sheikh Gumi if found culpable for terrorism.”
He further referenced former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s stance, writing: “According to El-Rufai, the only repentant terrorist is a dead one, and I totally agree. Kill them all! Save Nigeria!”
Umoh urged decisive action, saying, “Yes, there may be political pressures from sacred cows, but at this point, does it matter? Let sacred cows be touched. Let heads roll. That is not too much for our roads, farmlands, communities, churches, and worship centers to be safe again.”
He concluded with a plea to the president: “Our country is near gone. Let’s save what remains of this already existing ruin and restore her back to glory. Mr. President, I know you can. I hope you will.”
