Former spokesperson of the Peoples Democratic Party, Olisa Metuh, has publicly stated that he has chosen to forgive everyone involved in the controversy surrounding the widely reported ₦400 million case that once dominated national headlines.
The former party official made the remarks while speaking with journalists as he prepares to mark his 60th birthday, using the moment to reflect on the difficult period he experienced during the legal proceedings.
According to Gossip News Now reports that Metuh’s case became one of the most talked-about political prosecutions during the administration of Muhammadu Buhari. At the time, he faced charges related to alleged misuse of funds during the government of Goodluck Jonathan.
Despite the long legal battle and intense public scrutiny, Metuh explained that reaching a milestone birthday prompted him to adopt a new outlook toward the people and institutions connected with the case.
In his remarks, he said he has decided to forgive everyone who played a role in the episode, including investigators, prosecutors, media commentators, and even members of the judiciary who handled aspects of the trial.
Metuh Maintains Funds Were Properly Accounted For
While expressing forgiveness, the former PDP spokesperson also reiterated his long-standing position that the controversial ₦400 million was not misappropriated.
According to him, the funds were provided during the PDP-led administration and were never intended for campaign purposes or security-related spending as widely alleged in public discussions.
He explained that during the court proceedings, his legal team presented documentation detailing how the money was used. The report, he said, showed that the funds were managed by a broader team rather than a single individual.
Metuh stated that the group responsible for handling the funds included respected figures from various sectors, among them the late Tony Anenih.
Recognition From Political Figures
He further recalled that the transparency of the financial report was acknowledged by several individuals who reviewed it. Among those he mentioned was Godswill Akpabio, who reportedly observed that the documentation submitted to former President Jonathan was detailed and comprehensive.
Metuh insisted that the records demonstrated that expenditures were properly documented and accounted for during the period in question.
Reflections on Nigeria’s Political Climate
The former PDP spokesman also commented on the current political environment in Nigeria. In comparing past administrations with the present one, he suggested that the country’s political space has evolved.
He observed that the government led by Bola Ahmed Tinubu appears more tolerant of criticism than the environment he experienced during his legal battle.
Metuh described himself as someone who endured the intense political atmosphere of that earlier period, adding that the experiences shaped his perspective on forgiveness and reconciliation.
Commentary and Analysis
Metuh’s statement highlights the enduring impact of political prosecutions on Nigeria’s public figures and institutions. Cases involving prominent politicians often extend beyond the courtroom, influencing political narratives and public perception for years.
By choosing forgiveness as he approaches a personal milestone, the former PDP official appears to be attempting to close a difficult chapter of his life.
The episode also illustrates how legal battles tied to political administrations can become part of the broader historical record of governance in Nigeria. Whether viewed through legal, political, or personal lenses, such controversies often leave lasting effects on the individuals involved and the institutions that manage them.
