Former National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olisa Metuh, has declared that he has forgiven all those involved in the controversy surrounding the alleged ₦400 million misappropriation.
Gossip News Now reports that Metuh was previously accused of misusing ₦400 million meant for the purchase of security equipment during the Goodluck Jonathan administration and faced arraignment during the tenure of the late President Muhammadu Buhari.
Speaking to journalists on Tuesday ahead of his 60th birthday, Metuh denied that any money was missing, explaining that the funds were provided by the then-PDP government and were not intended for election campaigns or security purposes.
“The truth is, as I approach 60, I have forgiven everyone. I’ve forgiven those involved, the judge, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, the media used for the media trial, the key actors, and the prosecutors. I’ve forgiven everyone,” Metuh said.
He added, “I want us to move forward. I thank God for my life. If God forgives me my sins and has allowed me to live for 60 years despite all the challenges I faced, why shouldn’t I forgive others?”
Metuh reiterated that the alleged ₦400 million was never missing. “The money was provided by the previous PDP government. It had nothing to do with campaign funds or security money. In court, we demonstrated to the world that the funds were given to me as part of a team led by the former BoT chairman, Chief Tony Anenih. Several individuals from the Presidency, academia, and media were involved, and we submitted detailed reports of all expenditures.”
He recalled that even the current Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, noted that the former President was impressed by the transparency of the report he submitted.
Metuh also commended the current administration under President Bola Tinubu for adopting a more tolerant approach. “The present government has been quite different from the last, which was harsh on criticism and opposition voices. I am a survivor of that era,” he added.
