Veteran Nollywood actress Omotola Jalade has addressed rumors suggesting a feud between her and fellow movie star Genevieve Nnaji, clarifying that no such fight ever existed.
The speculation has circulated for years, largely because the actresses are rarely seen together today, unlike in the early days of their careers.
Debunking the Feud
Speaking during an interview on Yanga FM, Omotola dismissed claims of a long-standing quarrel, comparing the rumors to similar narratives often spread about Nigerian music stars.
“Na them start the quarrel before we know say we dey quarrel. So, we have to catch up with the quarrel. There was no quarrel,” she said, explaining that fans and media often pit celebrities against one another unnecessarily.
When asked whether there had ever been a disagreement lasting for years before the release of the movie EJ, she clarified: “People don’t need to be best friends, but we talked. Behind the film, we dey talk normally. Really, na them start the quarrel before we know say we dey quarrel. We were young, everybody dey do her own thing.”
Understanding Industry Dynamics
Omotola also highlighted that competition and comparisons are a natural part of the entertainment industry. “You know how the industry is. Them go pitch you against this person, talk say na this one be the hottest girl, na that one be the hottest girl. So, those kind tension go dey normally, but people dey read am as other things,” she explained.
She emphasized that such narratives are often blown out of proportion and are more a reflection of fan culture than reality.
Omotola’s remarks serve as a reminder that perceived rivalries in Nollywood often exist only in public imagination and media speculation.
