In a violent confrontation on Sunday night, a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) was killed during a terrorist attack targeting a police post at the Dangote Cement Factory in Obajana, Kogi State. The assault, according to security sources, involved a large group of hooded assailants and appears to be in retaliation for a recent military operation in the region that reportedly claimed over 200 insurgent lives.

Eyewitness accounts confirm that the terrorists attempted to breach the police position but were successfully repelled. “They came in large numbers, all hooded, seeking revenge for the heavy losses they suffered earlier. Despite their numbers, they were pushed back and sustained further casualties as they evacuated their dead,” a security insider said.

Though one CJTF member tragically lost his life, there were no police casualties and no firearms were reported stolen during the clash. Troops stationed at the Dangote facility reportedly maintained a strong defense, forcing the attackers to retreat after sustaining heavy losses. Another source noted, “Last night, terrorists attacked a police position at Obajana. Troops stationed at Dangote’s Cement Factory successfully defended the site.”

The attack highlights the ongoing risks faced by security operatives and allied civilian volunteers in areas vulnerable to terrorist reprisals. Analysts suggest that such assaults are becoming more frequent in regions where insurgents perceive military and community defenses as threats to their operations.

As of now, the Kogi State Police Command has not released an official statement regarding the incident, leaving residents and stakeholders awaiting formal confirmation and additional details.

Analysis: Implications for Security in Industrial Zones

The confrontation underscores the strategic targeting of industrial facilities by insurgents seeking to undermine both economic stability and local security. While the Dangote Cement Factory remains operational, the attack raises concerns about the vulnerability of key infrastructure to terrorist retaliation. Security experts stress the importance of enhanced perimeter defenses, rapid response units, and ongoing intelligence gathering to prevent future incidents.
