Onuachu and Dele-Bashiru Confident Nigeria Can Defeat Tunisia in Key AFCON Clash

Super Eagles forwards Paul Onuachu and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru have expressed confidence that Nigeria possess the quality and determination to secure a crucial victory over Tunisia in Saturday’s Group C fixture at AFCON 2025 in Fès, Morocco.

Both teams head into the encounter with three points from their opening matches, meaning the winner will be in prime position to top the group and secure early qualification for the knockout rounds.

Onuachu, who has enjoyed a standout season with Trabzonspor, highlighted Nigeria’s strength and focus ahead of the match. “Nigeria is a big footballing nation, and Tunisia is strong too, but we have a quality squad ready to take it to the next level,” he said.

He added: “There are many strong teams in this tournament. We want to win AFCON, but we must focus on one game at a time.” The former Genk striker came off the bench in Nigeria’s 2-1 win against Tanzania and is hoping for a bigger role as the Super Eagles aim to secure early qualification.

Midfielder Fisayo Dele-Bashiru echoed the same determination, stressing that the prestige of competing at AFCON alone keeps the team motivated. “Being here at the AFCON is enough incentive to push for a victory. This match is vital if we want to finish top of the group, and we’ll do everything we can to get it done,” he told reporters.

A win on Saturday would guarantee automatic progression to the knockout stage and secure first place in Group C ahead of the final group fixtures.
