Popular Nollywood star Onyi Alex has openly condemned some prominent Igbo entrepreneurs for publicly backing the administration of Bola Tinubu, sparking renewed debate over political loyalty and ethnic interests.
The controversy gained attention after influential businessmen, including Obi Cubana and Cubana Chiefpriest, declared their association with a political circle widely linked to Seyi Tinubu. Their endorsement of the movement drew strong reactions, particularly from people in the South-East who questioned the implications of such support.
Reacting emotionally, the actress expressed frustration over what she described as a pattern of betrayal among her people. In her remarks, she made a striking biblical reference, suggesting that betrayal is not new, adding that she sometimes feels as though even Judas, who betrayed Jesus, could have come from her own ethnic group.
She also highlighted the worsening security concerns in the South-East, pointing out that fear has changed how many Igbos travel. According to her, insecurity has made road travel risky, forcing wealthy individuals to rely on private aircraft when returning home. Despite these dangers, she said it was troubling that some influential figures still chose to stand behind leadership she believes has not delivered for her people.
Her criticism went further, warning that those who turn against their own community for political alignment may eventually face rejection from the same allies they support. She suggested that trust may never fully exist between such individuals and the political interests they have chosen to back.
The actress’s comments have since fueled intense discussion on social media, with opinions divided between those who share her concerns and others who believe individuals have the right to support any political movement regardless of ethnic expectations.
