Nigerian stars Victor Osimhen and Wilfred Ndidi were in the spotlight on Saturday as Galatasaray and Besiktas settled for a 1-1 draw in a heated Istanbul derby at Rams Park.
Both Super Eagles internationals started the match and impressed before being substituted in the second half—Ndidi making way for Kartal Yilmaz, while Mauro Icardi replaced Osimhen late on. At one point, Ndidi was even seen intervening to calm Osimhen during a scuffle with a Besiktas player.
Besiktas struck first through England forward Tammy Abraham, who opened the scoring in the 12th minute. However, the game’s dynamic changed in the 34th minute when Davinson Sanchez received a red card, leaving Galatasaray with a numerical advantage.
The hosts eventually capitalized, as Ilkay Gundogan equalized in the 55th minute to salvage a point. Despite relentless pressure, Galatasaray could not break down Besiktas’ stubborn defence.
The draw ended Galatasaray’s flawless run in the Turkish Super Lig, snapping a streak of seven consecutive wins. It was also a slight setback following their Champions League triumph over Liverpool earlier in the week, when Osimhen’s penalty had sealed a famous victory.
Besiktas, meanwhile, earned credit for their resilience with 10 men, holding firm to claim a vital away point. The result keeps the Black Eagles in fifth place with 13 points from seven matches, while Galatasaray remain league leaders on 22 points after eight games.
