The Osun State Government has appointed Nigerian music icon David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, as the Chairman of the Osun Sports Trust Fund.
Gossip News Now reports that the announcement was made by the state’s Deputy Governor, Kola Adewusi, as part of efforts to strengthen sports development and funding in the state.
According to the government, Davido’s appointment is aimed at leveraging his global influence to attract local and international sponsorships that will enhance sports growth and infrastructure in Osun.
Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration reaffirmed its commitment to revitalizing the state’s sports sector, including the ongoing renovation of the Osogbo Township Stadium, which is expected to meet Olympic standards upon completion.
Deputy Governor Adewusi also disclosed that plans are at an advanced stage to establish the Osun State Sports Commission, a centralized body that will oversee sports administration, policy formulation, and development.
Speaking on the initiative, Adewusi said:
“The Osogbo Township Stadium renovation is progressing well and will soon meet Olympic standards.
We are also finalizing the creation of the Osun State Sports Commission to serve as the central body for sports management and policy implementation.
In addition, the Sports Trust Fund—now chaired by Davido—will attract donations and sponsorships from sports philanthropists within and outside the state, ensuring sustainable financing for sports development.”
He added that Davido enthusiastically accepted the appointment, expressing confidence that the singer’s involvement will bring a new wave of investment and innovation to Osun’s sports sector.
