As the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) conducts its governorship primary in Osun, party officials have confirmed that Governor Ademola Adeleke and his co-aspirant, Adebayo Adedamola, both appeared on the ballot.
According to the PDP electoral committee’s Secretary, Sunday Solarin, Adeleke’s resignation came after the voting documents had already been finalized, leaving no time to amend or reprint the ballots. The announcement of his departure was made late Monday night, after ballots had been printed and packed for delegate voting.
“There are two aspirants vying for the PDP ticket, but one of them, Governor Ademola Adeleke, resigned from the party late on Monday, and we couldn’t amend the ballot,” Solarin said.
He advised delegates to disregard Adeleke’s name despite its presence on the voting paper, clarifying that only Adebayo Adedamola remains eligible for the party’s ticket.
“So, as you prepare to cast your vote, bear in mind that only Adebayo Adedamola remains the PDP aspirant, as his opponent resigned from the party,” Solarin added.
At the time of filing this report, delegates had completed voting, and ballot collation was underway at designated tables monitored by INEC observers. Party officials were seen sorting and tallying ballots in Osogbo on Tuesday morning, ahead of the official declaration of results.
