The Osun State Government has rejected claims by the All Progressives Congress (APC) that Governor Ademola Adeleke received and misused ₦1 trillion in state allocations, calling the allegation entirely false.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the governor’s spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, described the claim as “a malicious fabrication, misleading propaganda, and a failed attempt to tarnish the commendable achievements of the current administration, as recognized by both local and international observers.”

Rasheed argued that the opposition party was circulating the falsehoods in anticipation of “another electoral defeat in 2026.” He emphasized that Governor Adeleke has not received anything near ₦1 trillion since taking office in 2022 and highlighted that the administration has “managed state resources prudently, focusing squarely on the needs of the people.”

Citing concrete achievements, Rasheed listed major projects as evidence of the government’s performance: “It is only an anti-people group that would ignore nearly 322 kilometers of newly constructed roads across the state, the renovation of 200 health centres, the refurbishment of over 100 schools, the ongoing dualisation projects in several towns, upgrades and rehabilitation of multiple waterworks, multibillion-naira grassroots development projects, flyover bridges, new tractors, and the ongoing transformation of Osogbo Stadium into a five-star facility, among others.”

He further noted that Adeleke had cleared half of the salary arrears left by the previous APC administration and ensured consistent pension payments. “Enrolling over 30,000 pensioners into the state health insurance scheme is an unprecedented initiative that has now even been adopted by the Federal Government,” Rasheed added.

The spokesperson also highlighted that the governor had reduced Osun State’s debt by 40 percent, according to the Federal Debt Management Office, and pointed out that Adeleke “has not taken any loans since 2022” and “does not receive security votes.”

Rasheed accused the APC of double standards regarding local government finances, stating that the state government had been shouldering financial responsibilities ever since the party “illegally seized council funds.” He added, “Thousands of local government workers continue to earn and feed their families despite attempts by those behind the illegal takeover to cause hardship.”

The spokesperson also pointed to other notable accomplishments, including Osun State’s rise in the NECO rankings from 33rd to 7th place and a 40 percent reduction in the state’s infrastructure deficit since 2022. He noted that the state was recently recognised as the best in the South West for primary healthcare access.

“The Nigerian Union of Teachers has consistently praised Governor Adeleke for his dedicated attention to teachers’ welfare, training, and overall support,” Rasheed said, adding that pensioners, civil servants, farmers, and traders “regularly express satisfaction with the government’s direction and policies.”

He called on the opposition to halt its “habitual spread of misinformation” and allow the people of Osun to benefit from what he described as “the most impactful and citizen-focused administration in the state’s history.”
