Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has called on the Julius Abure-led faction of the Labour Party (LP) to respect and comply with the ruling of the Federal High Court, which recognised the Nenadi Usman-led National Caretaker Committee as the legitimate leadership of the party.
Gossip News Now reports that the Abuja-based Federal High Court recently upheld the removal of Abure as the party’s National Chairman and directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to officially recognise the Nenadi Usman-led leadership.
Reacting to the judgment, Governor Otti urged Abure and his supporters to abandon all hostilities and embrace reconciliation in the interest of party unity.
He assured that the Abure faction would be forgiven and reintegrated if they choose to “turn a new leaf” by becoming law-abiding and respecting judicial authority.
Court Ruling Described as Sound
Speaking through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, the governor described the court verdict as well-founded and just, expressing gratitude to party loyalists and democracy advocates who stood by the Labour Party during what he described as a turbulent period.
Otti further appealed to those responsible for what he termed frivolous litigations against the party to cease all legal battles and uphold the ruling, which he noted aligns with an earlier Supreme Court judgment on the matter.
Call for Party Rebuilding and Unity
The governor also urged the newly recognised national leadership of the Labour Party to view the court victory as an opportunity to reposition and strengthen the party, emphasising the need to promote peace, unity, and justice in line with the party’s constitution and founding principles.
He stressed that sustained harmony within the party is crucial for building a credible political platform capable of advancing democratic ideals and national development.
