The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has officially appointed Alhaji Rahman Owokoniran, former Lagos State Commissioner for Housing, as the party’s South-West Zonal Chairman.

The swearing-in ceremony, overseen by the party’s National Chairman, Senator David Mark, also included the inauguration of Owokoniran’s zonal executive committee, formalizing the leadership structure for the region.

Addressing the media, ADC chieftain Coker Onita dismissed recent claims of internal disagreements within the South-West chapter, labeling them as baseless and deliberately misleading for both party members and the public.

“For clarity, Hon. Alhaji Rahman Akanni Owokoniran was today formally inaugurated and sworn in as the South-West Zonal Chairman of the ADC by the Deputy National Chairman, Dr. Bamidele Ajadi, the highest-ranking national officer in the region, with the full backing and authority of National Chairman Senator David Mark and the party’s national leadership,” Onita said.

The party also refuted suggestions that the South-West leadership had been rejected by the national body, calling such reports “entirely false, misleading, and intentionally deceptive.”

Onita went further to accuse agents and supporters of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of trying to destabilize the ADC in the South-West through misinformation, highlighting the party’s growing acceptance and influence in the region.

He criticized a publication from a group calling itself the “ADC Lagos State Stakeholders Forum”, calling it an attempt to undermine the party by an “unknown and faceless entity” and referring to its members as “fifth columnists.”

“In a democratic party, anonymous allegations are acts of subversion, not accountability. Those claiming to represent ADC should clearly identify themselves with their positions and mandates,” Onita stated.

The party affirmed that while it welcomes constructive dialogue and lawful engagement, it will firmly resist any attempt to infiltrate or spread misinformation aimed at weakening its leadership structure.

Finally, the statement reinforced that the ADC remains united and committed to offering Nigerians a credible political alternative, emphasizing that the South-West leadership under Owokoniran is legitimate, recognised, and fully supported by the national leadership.
