Dickson Iroegbu, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Obidient Movement, has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Tinubu of giving Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, the platform to weaken the PDP and threaten Nigeria’s democratic process.
Speaking on Arise Television’s Prime Time programme on Friday, Iroegbu claimed that the APC strategically empowered Wike to destabilize and possibly dismantle the PDP. According to him, Wike now appears to act as though he is above President Tinubu.
He said, “The reality is that the APC, through the enabling role of the President, provided Wike with the platform he is now using to almost sabotage democracy in Nigeria. They positioned him to undermine, weaken, and potentially destroy the PDP. Having nearly achieved that, he now seems to consider himself bigger than the President.”
Iroegbu added, “If you listen to the meetings he holds with his supporters in Rivers State, he makes it clear that nobody—absolutely no one—can determine what happens in the state. Wike has become a larger-than-life figure, a creation of the Tinubu administration.”
He concluded by expressing hope that the ongoing political struggles would empower Nigerians to reclaim control over their country. “We hope this conflict continues in a way that allows citizens to take back their nation,” Iroegbu said.
