The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed a letter submitted by the faction led by Senator Samuel Anyanwu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stating that the request “did not meet legal requirements.”
According to The Nation, the letter — jointly signed by Abdulrahaman Mohammed and Senator Anyanwu — asked the commission to postpone the Ekiti governorship primary scheduled for November 8, 2025, citing “logistical reasons.”
The November 6 letter, titled “Postponement of PDP Ekiti State Congress/Governorship Primary,” informed INEC that a new date would be communicated later.
Despite this request, the PDP conducted the primary as planned on November 8, with Dr. Wole Oluyede emerging victorious after scoring 279 votes to defeat Funso Agent (239 votes) and Funmilayo Ogun (17 votes).
INEC Says Submission Violates Party Guidelines
In a response dated November 10, 2025, and addressed to the PDP National Secretary, INEC declared the faction’s communication invalid. The letter, signed by Commission Secretary Rose Oriaran Anthony, stated that the correspondence failed to comply with Section 2(12)3 of the 2022 Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties.
INEC noted that only a notice jointly signed by the party’s National Chairman and National Secretary is legally acceptable.
“The Commission hereby informs you that it has rejected your submission for non-compliance with the requirements of the Electoral Act,” the letter read.
This decision effectively nullifies Abdulrahaman Mohammed’s claim to be the acting national chairman of the PDP.
