A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced the postponement of its Ekiti State governorship primary, originally scheduled for Saturday, November 8, 2025, citing logistics challenges as the reason for the delay.

The development was disclosed in a letter jointly signed by the factional Acting National Chairman, Abdulrahman Mohammed, and National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and addressed to the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan.

Faction Cites Circumstances Beyond Control

According to the letter, unforeseen circumstances made it impossible for the faction to proceed with the exercise on the earlier date.

“We wish to inform you that the PDP Ekiti State Congress and Governorship Primary slated for November 8, 2025, has been postponed due to logistics reasons constraining this exercise,” the statement read.
“A new date will be formally communicated when decided. Kindly refer to our earlier correspondence on this subject matter.”

The letter, however, did not provide further details on the specific nature of the logistical constraints.

Faction Linked To Wike’s Loyalists

Reports indicate that the faction behind the postponement is led by Abdulrahman Mohammed and Senator Samuel Anyanwu, both of whom are regarded as allies of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

The delay comes amid intensifying power tussles within the PDP, as multiple factions battle for control of the party’s national structure ahead of upcoming elections.

Next Steps Awaited

The faction assured INEC that a fresh date for the Ekiti primary will be communicated soon once internal arrangements are finalized.

The postponement means aspirants and delegates will have to remain on standby while the leadership continues to navigate internal divisions, legal challenges, and the struggle for dominance within the party’s hierarchy.
