PDP Heavyweights Reportedly Preparing to Defect to ADC as Faction Holds Meeting With Jonathan

New reports suggest that several influential members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may soon leave the party for the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

According to multiple insiders who spoke with The Whistler, discussions between these PDP leaders and the ADC’s top hierarchy have progressed significantly, with official declarations expected shortly.

The anticipated defections involve key stakeholders from various states who are said to have become disillusioned with the PDP leadership.

A senior PDP insider familiar with the ongoing talks explained that many of those considering the move believe the ADC provides “a more stable and ideologically consistent platform” to advance their political goals.

“There is mounting frustration. A lot of leaders feel the PDP has failed to address its internal conflicts, so they are now exploring other political options,” the source revealed.

This development coincides with a meeting between a faction of the PDP, led by former minister Kabiru Turaki, and former President Goodluck Jonathan on Tuesday. The meeting, which was held privately at Jonathan’s residence in Maitama, Abuja, has generated speculation.

However, details of what was discussed remain unclear, and it is not yet known whether the meeting is connected to the widely reported defection plans.

Turaki’s faction is aligned with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, while the opposing faction under Abdulrahman Mohammed is said to be aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

Meanwhile, the ADC has been intensifying its political positioning, holding a series of quiet consultations with prominent politicians and dissatisfied members of other parties.

AAC officials say the party is committed to strengthening its nationwide structure and increasing its influence ahead of future elections.

An ADC national executive who spoke with the publication confirmed that discussions with politicians from the PDP and other parties are ongoing, but stressed that only those who share the party’s values will be accepted.

“We welcome collaboration, but we remain committed to discipline and internal democracy,” the official stated.

In response to growing rumours of large-scale defections, PDP leaders have downplayed the reports, insisting the party remains strong despite its internal issues.

A party official who remains optimistic about the PDP’s recovery said steps are being taken to address grievances and urged loyal members to stay committed.
