The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State has suffered another major setback as a former House of Assembly candidate, Hon. Niyi Adeogun, alongside several party leaders and members, defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The defection, which took place at Erinmope/Aaye Oja/Irare Ward in Moba Local Government Area on Monday, October 20, 2025, further weakened the PDP’s grassroots structure in the region.

Adeogun explained that their move was inspired by President Bola Tinubu’s “bold economic reforms” and Governor Biodun Oyebanji’s inclusive and people-oriented leadership in Ekiti State.

He commended Governor Oyebanji for his “open-door policy” and dedication to improving the lives of citizens across political divides, highlighting ongoing rural development projects such as the Erinmope-Irare Road reconstruction as evidence of progress.

“Ekiti has become a massive construction site. Everywhere you go, there are signs of progress. I am joining APC not for personal gain but to support the governor’s excellent work and contribute to his re-election in 2026,” Adeogun said.

He revealed that he was joined by the PDP Ward Chairman, Youth Leader, and several other executives, describing them as “the backbone of the opposition” in the area.

Receiving the defectors, APC State Chairman Hon. Sola Elesin, represented by Ward Chairman Hon. Kolawole Olaoluwa, welcomed them warmly and assured equal opportunities within the party.

Elesin praised Governor Oyebanji’s leadership for fostering unity and inclusiveness, urging the new members to remain loyal and committed as the 2026 election draws closer.

“Now that you are with us, be steadfast and work together to ensure Governor Oyebanji’s re-election so that the people of Ekiti can continue to enjoy the dividends of democracy,” he said.
