Northern leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have endorsed former Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Kabiru Turaki, as their consensus candidate for the position of National Chairman.
Gossip News Now reports that the endorsement was made during a high-level stakeholders’ meeting in Abuja on Wednesday night, attended by prominent PDP figures, including Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal, and the party’s acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum.
The PDP National Convention, where new members of the National Working Committee (NWC) will be elected, is scheduled to take place on November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
However, the build-up to the event has hit a potential legal setback as a suit filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja seeks to halt the convention.
The case, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/2120/2025, was filed by PDP state executives — Austine Nwachukwu (Imo), Amah Abraham Nnanna (Abia), and Turnah George (South-South Secretary). They are asking the court to restrain the party from proceeding with the scheduled convention.
The lawsuit, reportedly supported by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, is expected to be heard on October 31, 2025.
Meanwhile, the PDP National Executive Committee (NEC) had earlier resolved to zone the party’s 2027 presidential ticket to the South, which traditionally positions the National Chairmanship slot in the North — setting the stage for Turaki’s endorsement.
