The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has announced the formation of caretaker committees to temporarily manage the party’s operations in Delta, Enugu, Imo, Rivers, and Osun states.
According to Gossip News Now, the committees were approved on behalf of the National Executive Committee (NEC), in accordance with Section 29(2)(b) of the PDP Constitution (2025 as amended). This was disclosed in a public statement issued on Thursday by the National Organising Secretary, Theophilus Dakas Shan.
The party noted that the decision aligns with its constitutional mandate to maintain stability, effective administration, and continuity of party structures across state chapters.
Shan stated:
“The National Working Committee (NWC) of our great party, acting on behalf of the National Executive Committee (NEC) and in line with Section 29(2)(b) of the PDP Constitution (2025 as amended), has approved the appointment of the following leaders to serve on the caretaker committees for Delta, Enugu, Imo, Rivers, and Osun States.”
In Delta State, the caretaker committee will be chaired by Prof. Sylvester Monye, while Dr. Michael Tidi, Esq., has been appointed secretary. Other members will represent various zones within the state.
For Enugu State, Barr. Steve Oruruo will serve as chairman with Martin Ugwuamadieze as secretary. Chief John Jude Okere and Mr. Magnus Amadi were chosen to head the Imo State caretaker committee as chairman and secretary respectively.
In Rivers State, Ogbam Ojimah has been appointed caretaker chairman, with Dr. Field Baribeful Nkor serving as secretary. Meanwhile, the Osun State committee will be led by Hon. Tunde Tijani, assisted by Hon. Bamidele Seyi-Abiola as secretary.
The PDP emphasized that these committees will oversee daily party activities in each state, in line with constitutional requirements.
“The Committees are mandated to manage the affairs of the Party in their respective states, as outlined under Section 21(2)(a-b) of the PDP Constitution,” the announcement stated.
Each committee will remain in office for 90 days or until a new executive body is elected. During this period, they are expected to operate strictly in compliance with the PDP Constitution (2025 as amended), the Electoral Act of 2022, and the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).
With this development, the affected state chapters move under interim leadership as the PDP prepares to rebuild and organize its full executive structures in the five states.
