The Ondo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has criticised Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa over what it described as his silence following the death of a teenager allegedly knocked down by his convoy.

Gossip News Now reports that in a statement issued on Thursday by its Director of Media and Public Communications, Wande Ajayi, the PDP alleged that the victim, Good Emiju, was hit by the governor’s convoy in Oka-Akoko, the headquarters of Akoko South-West Local Government Area, during Aiyedatiwa’s thank-you tour of communities in the council.

The opposition party expressed concern over what it called the rushed burial of the teenager, claiming that his death resulted from the inability of the General Hospital in Oka-Akoko to properly handle the emergency.

The PDP demanded a clear and transparent explanation from the state government, insisting that the governor’s continued silence was unacceptable, insensitive, and disrespectful to the memory of the deceased and his family.

According to the statement, “Credible reports indicate that the victim was initially taken to the General Hospital in Oka-Akoko, where medical staff were allegedly unable to adequately manage the situation due to the poor state of the facility. He was later transferred to the Federal Medical Centre, Owo, where he was confirmed dead. Disturbingly, the young man has since been buried.

“To date, there has been no official statement to brief the public, clarify the facts surrounding the incident, or explain how a citizen lost his life in connection with a government convoy.”

In response, Governor Aiyedatiwa, through his Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Allen Sowore, denied any involvement, insisting that his convoy was not responsible for the incident.

“It is important to categorically state that the governor’s convoy was neither responsible for nor involved in any accident on that day, or on any other day since the commencement of the Thank-You Tour across the 18 local government areas of the state,” the statement read.
