The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has issued a stern response to governors and political stakeholders who recently left its ranks, insisting that those who defected were part of the very issues they now criticize.
Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Friday, January 2, 2026, PDP National Publicity Secretary Ini Ememobong maintained that the party is actively working to resolve its internal challenges.
He acknowledged that the PDP has faced difficulties but emphasized that the leadership is handling the situation with responsibility and commitment. According to him, the party’s problems did not emerge in isolation but were created by individuals who once occupied influential positions within its structure.
Ememobong argued that it is contradictory for former leaders to distance themselves from crises that developed during their tenure. In his view, when such figures leave and attribute the party’s struggles to systemic failure, they are overlooking their own roles in shaping those circumstances.
“When people walk away and accuse the PDP of having problems, they must remember they were in leadership when those issues arose,” he stated. “The crises were created by human beings. So if they say the party has problems, they are also part of those problems.”
He further suggested that defectors are merely transferring unresolved issues to their new political platforms rather than escaping them. Describing the trend as a matter of political convenience, Ememobong stressed that switching parties does not erase accountability.
The PDP’s position, he concluded, is clear: internal reforms are ongoing, and responsibility for past challenges cannot simply be abandoned at the door of defection.
