Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party across various states have expressed renewed determination to maintain unity within the party while backing its newly appointed national leadership.

The position was made public by members of the party’s forum of state chairmen, who declared their intention to remain resilient despite what they described as political pressure and institutional challenges facing the party.

According to Gossip News Now reports that the forum released a joint statement confirming their support for the newly elected National Chairman, Kabiru Turaki. The leaders believe his emergence presents an opportunity to strengthen the party’s internal structure.

The declaration followed the party’s national convention held recently in Ibadan, where a new leadership team was selected to guide the party forward.

The statement was endorsed by the chairman of the forum and Edo State PDP leader, Tony Aziegbemi, alongside several other state chairmen representing the party’s regional leadership structures.

Party Leaders Emphasize Determination

In their message, the state chairmen emphasized that the party remains committed to its founding ideals despite political obstacles. They maintained that members would continue working collectively to strengthen the organisation nationwide.

The forum also described the newly formed National Working Committee as a key pillar that will help stabilize party operations and address internal challenges.

The leadership team elected at the convention consists of a twenty-member committee tasked with managing party affairs and coordinating activities across different regions of the country.

Appreciation for Convention Organisers

Beyond reaffirming loyalty to the party leadership, the forum expressed gratitude to several governors who played roles in organizing the national convention.

Among those acknowledged was Seyi Makinde, who was commended for hosting the gathering in Ibadan and ensuring that the event proceeded smoothly.

Other governors who received recognition for their contributions included:

  • Bala Mohammed, who heads the PDP Governors’ Forum
  • Ahmadu Fintiri, who chaired the convention organising committee
  • Caleb Mutfwang, for his involvement in coordination efforts

Additional commendation was given to Dauda Lawal and Ademola Adeleke for helping maintain unity during a period many described as politically sensitive.

Significance of the Ibadan Convention

The Ibadan convention, which took place over two days in November, marked a major moment for the party’s internal restructuring. Delegates from across the country gathered to elect new national officers responsible for guiding the party’s strategy ahead of future political contests.

Party leaders expressed optimism that the new leadership would help restore internal cohesion and strengthen the party’s organisational capacity nationwide.

Commentary and Analysis

The endorsement of the new national chairman by state party leaders signals an attempt by the PDP to stabilize its structure following periods of internal disagreement.

Political parties in Nigeria often rely heavily on state-level leadership to mobilize support and maintain organizational strength. For this reason, the backing of state chairmen can play a crucial role in determining how effectively national leadership initiatives are implemented.

By publicly pledging support for the new leadership, the forum appears to be sending a message of unity to party members and supporters. Whether this cohesion will translate into stronger political performance in future elections remains a key question as Nigeria’s political landscape continues to evolve.
