The ongoing leadership crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took a deeper turn on Tuesday following the resignation of Sunny Ndukwu, a media aide to the party’s former National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu.

In a resignation letter dated January 4, 2026, and addressed to the Chairman of the PDP in Nguru Umuowa Ward 6, Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State, Ndukwu attributed his decision to the lack of unity, clear direction, and unresolved internal conflicts plaguing the party.

He stated that the present condition of the PDP no longer reflects the foundational ideals and guiding principles that initially attracted him to the party.

“I hereby formally announce my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with immediate effect. I remain grateful to the party for the opportunity to contribute in various capacities,” the letter stated.

“However, the current path the party has chosen makes it imperative for me to seek a new political platform whose vision and objectives align more closely with my personal convictions,” he added.

Prior to his resignation, Ndukwu served as Special Adviser on Communications to Senator Anyanwu. He also held the position of Deputy Director of Media and Publicity for the Imo State PDP 2023 Governorship Campaign Council.

Earlier, before the commencement of the 2023 election campaigns, he was appointed Director of Media and Publicity of the Divine Mandate Movement, the political structure of the former PDP National Secretary.

In 2024, Ndukwu was named Secretary of the Ngor Okpala Local Government Area PDP Congress Committee, where he reportedly played a significant role in the reconciliation and harmonisation process that led to the emergence of the current LGA executive leadership and the election of 11 ward officers.
