As political maneuvering ahead of the 2027 elections gathers pace, former presidential aide Lauretta Onochie has appealed to stakeholders within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to prioritize unity over factional interests.

In a message shared on her official Facebook page, Onochie stressed that the ADC’s success depends on collective commitment from all members, regardless of their political backgrounds. She argued that once individuals or groups join the party, they must operate fully within its structure without maintaining parallel identities.

Referring specifically to Peter Obi and his supporters, widely known as the Obidient Movement, Onochie expressed confidence that they recognize the importance of solidarity within the ADC.

“My understanding is that we are all now members of the ADC, irrespective of our different political backgrounds — APC, PDP, APGA, SDP, Obidient, Labour Party, Buhari Support Organisations, and others,” she wrote.

She maintained that no bloc within the party should function independently, emphasizing that unity is non-negotiable for electoral success.

“I strongly believe that Mr. Peter Obi and the Obidient Movement understand that we are stronger together. No group can exist in isolation within a union and still succeed — none,” she stated.

Drawing a comparison, Onochie noted that Buhari Support Organisations are not operating as a distinct entity within the ADC and insisted that the same principle should apply to all groups.

“We are not standing as separate entities inside the ADC. We are one family. We have one house, and that house is the ADC. Anyone who joins must live fully in that house,” she added.

Her remarks come amid recent developments within the Obidient Movement, which clarified that it would only back Peter Obi as a presidential candidate on the ADC platform and would not support him in a vice-presidential capacity under any arrangement.

The clarification followed reports attributed to the movement’s National Coordinator, Yunusa Tanko, suggesting that the group might remain within the ADC even if Obi did not secure the party’s presidential ticket.

Concluding her message, Onochie delivered a rallying call for cohesion and national renewal.

“No conditions. No exceptions. ADC, arise. Arise and shine, Nigeria,” she declared.
