The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has confirmed receiving intelligence about recent U.S. military strikes targeting terrorists in Sokoto State but has stated it will not release operational details to the public.
Gossip News Now reports that NPF spokesperson Benjamin Hundeyin made the remarks during a Tuesday appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today. He emphasized that the police deliberately refrain from sharing specifics of the December 25, 2025 operation.
“We focus heavily on intelligence gathering, not just intelligence sharing,” Hundeyin explained. “The Police Force is aware of certain details about the strikes, but we will not disclose them. We decline to discuss that particular operation.”
Hundeyin also clarified that although Nigerian and U.S. forces collaborated, the NPF prefers to leave matters related to military operations to the Ministry of Defence.
“There was cooperation, but it is better left as a defense matter for the Ministry of Defence to address,” he added.
According to the U.S. Department of Defense, the strikes resulted in the elimination of several ISIS-affiliated terrorists and were conducted at the request of the Nigerian government.
Former U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed the operation via his Truth Social platform, describing it as “perfect” and reaffirming America’s commitment to countering radical Islamic terrorism.
Following the operation, the Nigerian government confirmed it was a joint security effort approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Nigeria’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Yusuf Tuggar, emphasized that the strikes were a collaborative counterterrorism measure with the U.S., not aimed at any religion, and intended solely to protect lives and property.
“We are a multi-religious country, and we work with partners like the U.S. to combat terrorism and safeguard the lives and properties of Nigerians,” Tuggar said during an interview on Sunrise Daily.
The strikes were partly in response to growing international concern over the safety of Christians in Nigeria. This concern had previously led former President Trump to label Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” over allegations of religious persecution. The Nigerian government, however, has repeatedly denied any claims of genocide against Christians.
