Afrobeats singer and activist Seun Kuti has stirred widespread reactions after openly declaring that he does not believe in prayer, describing it as childish and ineffective.

The outspoken musician made the remarks in a video shared on his Instagram page, where he explained that he has never prayed in his life and sees no value in the act.

According to Seun, a person’s life is shaped by their decisions and actions, not by prayers. He argued that what many people call prayer is merely performative and offers no real solution to life’s problems.

“I have never prayed before. I don’t even know how to pray,” he said. “I don’t believe prayer works. Your life itself is the prayer. What you do with your life is your prayer. Praying loudly or in public is just eye service and childishness.”

Seun further questioned popular religious beliefs about God, claiming that contradictions within those beliefs make prayer meaningless.

He argued that if God’s will is already predetermined from beginning to end, then prayers that do not align with that will are bound to fail.

According to him, religious leaders often avoid explaining this contradiction because it allows them to exploit followers.

“I solve my problems; I don’t pray about them,” Seun stated. “If prayer actually solved problems, prisons and hospitals would be empty.”

The comments have since triggered intense debate online, with supporters praising his honesty while critics accuse him of being dismissive of faith and spirituality.
