Premier League rivals were on edge on Saturday as Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester City all secured tight victories in a competitive round of fixtures.

Arsenal reclaimed the summit of the Premier League after a hard-fought 2-1 win over Brighton & Hove Albion at the Emirates Stadium. The Gunners’ triumph came hours after Manchester City had temporarily taken the top spot with a win at Nottingham Forest.

The hosts dominated possession but had to work for their victory. Martin Ødegaard opened the scoring in the 14th minute with a precise low strike from outside the area, marking his first league goal of the season. Brighton struggled to respond until early in the second half when Georginio Rutter inadvertently turned the ball into his own net under pressure from Arsenal.

Brighton reduced the deficit in the 64th minute through Diego Gómez, sparking nervous moments for the home supporters. Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya made a crucial full-stretch save to deny substitute Yankubah Minteh an equaliser.

Arsenal coped with injuries, with Jurrien Timber unavailable and Riccardo Calafiori withdrawing during the warm-up. Declan Rice filled in at right-back, while teenager Myles Lewis-Skelly was drafted in. Late in the match, manager Mikel Arteta introduced Gabriel Magalhães to secure the win.

The victory restored Arsenal’s two-point lead at the top of the table, while Brighton slipped to 12th and remains winless in five matches.

At Anfield, Liverpool overcame bottom-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1. Ryan Gravenberch broke the deadlock in the 41st minute, with Florian Wirtz doubling the lead just before halftime, scoring his first Premier League goal. Wolves pulled one back in the second half through Santiago Bueno, but Liverpool held on, moving into fourth place. Wolves remain at the bottom of the table.

Earlier, Manchester City continued their impressive run with a 2-1 away win at Nottingham Forest. Tijjani Reijnders opened the scoring early in the second half, assisted by Rayan Cherki. Forest equalised via Omari Hutchinson, but Cherki struck the winner in the 83rd minute from a well-executed set-piece involving Josko Gvardiol.

The victory marked City’s sixth consecutive league win, temporarily lifting them above Arsenal before the Gunners’ later triumph restored them to the top of the Premier League.
