Erling Haaland was at his clinical best once again, scoring twice in the second half to guide Manchester City to a 2-0 victory over Everton at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday.

The win lifted Pep Guardiola’s men to the top of the Premier League table — at least temporarily — pending Arsenal’s clash with Fulham later in the day.

Haaland, fresh off a hat-trick for Norway during the international break, continued his blistering form with two well-taken goals that brought his season tally to 23 in just 13 appearances for club and country.

Everton frustrated City for much of the opening half, looking compact and dangerous on the counter. Iliman Ndiaye came close twice — first capitalizing on a sloppy Nathan Aké pass but missing his connection with Beto, then forcing a fine save from Gianluigi Donnarumma with a fierce drive.

City came alive after the interval. Haaland opened the scoring with a powerful header from Nico O’Reilly’s pinpoint cross, leaving Jordan Pickford helpless. Minutes later, he doubled the lead, finishing off a low cross from Savinho that deflected off James Tarkowski before finding the net.

Everton’s Jake O’Brien had earlier come perilously close to an own goal when his clearance rebounded off his own crossbar, summing up a frustrating afternoon for the visitors.

Elsewhere, Sunderland’s dream start to the season continued with a convincing 2-0 home win over struggling Wolves at the Stadium of Light.

France international Nordi Mukiele gave the Black Cats the lead after a clever one-two with Trai Hume, calmly finishing past Sam Johnstone. Wolves rallied after the break but struggled to penetrate Sunderland’s disciplined defense. Their misery was compounded in stoppage time when Ladislav Krejci inadvertently turned the ball into his own net.

The result lifted Sunderland to seventh place — their best home start to a top-flight campaign since the 1968/69 season — while Wolves remain winless after eight matches and rooted to the bottom of the table.
