Arsenal reclaimed the Premier League summit on Sunday, October 26, after grinding out a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace at the Emirates Stadium.
Eberechi Eze’s 39th-minute strike proved the difference as Mikel Arteta’s men extended their unbeaten run and solidified their position at the top of the table. The win kept Arsenal narrowly ahead of Bournemouth, who also secured a crucial victory in their fixture.
At Villa Park, Aston Villa pulled off one of the shocks of the weekend, defeating reigning champions Manchester City 1-0. Matty Cash netted the winner in the 19th minute, as Pep Guardiola’s side struggled to find a breakthrough against a disciplined and resilient Villa defense. The result piles more pressure on City’s title defence after a string of inconsistent away performances.
Meanwhile, Burnley stunned Wolverhampton Wanderers with a 3-2 win at Molineux Stadium. Zian Flemming scored twice in the opening half-hour, before Jacob Sørensen Larsen pulled one back from the spot for Wolves in the 42nd minute. Marshall Munetsi added Burnley’s third deep into stoppage time, and though Lyle Foster struck late in the 95th minute, Burnley held on for a vital away win.
Elsewhere, Bournemouth continued their impressive form with a 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest at the Vitality Stadium. Marcus Tavernier opened the scoring in the 25th minute, with youngster E.J. Kroupi doubling the lead before halftime.
Later in the day, Everton were scheduled to face Tottenham Hotspur at Hill Dickinson Stadium, as both teams looked to climb into the top half of the table.
As it stands, Arsenal lead the Premier League with 22 points, followed by Bournemouth, Sunderland, and Manchester City, while Wolves remain bottom, still searching for their first win of the campaign.
