Popular Nigerian comedian and TV host, Teju Babyface, has opened up about the emotional struggles he faced after relocating with his family to the United States, describing the move as the “biggest mistake” of his life at the time.

Speaking in a candid video shared on his YouTube channel, Teju revealed that although the relocation was a carefully planned step to advance his career and family life, it unexpectedly turned into a season of deep regret, confusion, and self-doubt.

According to him, just a few months after they settled in the U.S., the COVID-19 pandemic struck, derailing his professional plans and leaving him in a prolonged period of uncertainty.

“When we were leaving Nigeria, I knew beyond the shadow of a doubt that it was the necessary next step in my career evolution – for us as a family, as a unit,” Teju said. “But when we got here and the challenges started, especially when COVID-19 began a few months after we arrived, I was convinced I had made the biggest mistake of my life.”

He admitted that he once described his decision as a “ruinous risk” — a move he feared might destroy everything he had built over the years.

Teju recalled that during this difficult phase, a song by King Sunny Ade suddenly resonated with him in a way it never had before, helping him process the feelings of confusion and loss he was going through.

Despite the hardships, the comedian said the experience ultimately strengthened his faith and taught him valuable life lessons about resilience, patience, and trusting the process of change.

“I was completely lost and had no idea where my life was going,” he said. “For the first time, I understood what King Sunny Ade meant when he sang that song — something I had sung all my life without truly grasping its meaning.”

Teju Babyface concluded that while the relocation initially felt like a mistake, it eventually became a transformative journey that reshaped his outlook on life and purpose.
