Veteran Nollywood actress Rita Edochie has sparked widespread debate after openly condemning women who choose to marry as second wives.
In a fiery Instagram post, Edochie endorsed a cleric’s sermon against the practice, describing it as an act of greed and wickedness rather than love or destiny. She stressed that building happiness on another woman’s pain can only bring future sorrow.
Her lengthy message read in part:
“If you’re a second wife, you are nothing but greedy. You have chosen to feed on another woman’s tears and build your joy on her pain. Do not call it love — it is wickedness. Do not call it destiny — it is covetousness. A second wife is not a queen; she is a usurper. The same tears you caused will cry against you.”
Rita further warned that there is “no glory in being a second wife, only shame, curses, and the unending reminder that you could never be first.”
The actress has long been outspoken about her disapproval of Judy Austin’s marriage to Yul Edochie as a second wife, and her latest post leaves no doubt about her firm stance on the matter.
