All eyes will turn to the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt today as Rivers United and Bayelsa United renew their heated Niger Delta Derby rivalry in one of the standout fixtures of Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 8.

The clash between these two South-South sides has always been about bragging rights, pride, and dominance, often delivering high drama and intensity. Bayelsa United have had the upper hand recently, winning the last three encounters, including a 1-0 victory in Port Harcourt last November.

However, Rivers United enter this encounter as strong favourites. Under coach Finidi George, the Pride of Rivers are unbeaten in eight league matches and have one of the best defensive records in the NPFL — they haven’t conceded a goal in their last seven games across all competitions.

Their home form has also been formidable, with 11 consecutive home league wins at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium stretching back to last season.

In contrast, Bayelsa United have endured a tough run of form, failing to win any of their last five matches — with three defeats and two draws — and have not managed a clean sheet during that spell.

Currently sitting 14th on the log with eight points, the Yenagoa-based side will be desperate to stop their slide and regain momentum against their in-form rivals.
