Arsenal star William Saliba has revealed the reason he passed up the chance to join Real Madrid, saying his focus remains firmly on winning titles with the Gunners before entertaining thoughts of a move abroad.
The French defender, who recently signed a new long-term contract at the Emirates, admitted Madrid’s interest was appealing but insisted that completing unfinished business in North London mattered more.
“Of course it’s really tempting when a club like that is interested in you,” Saliba told Telefoot. “But I wanted to win titles at Arsenal first before thinking about anything else.”
Saliba has become a vital pillar in Mikel Arteta’s defence and one of Europe’s most coveted centre-backs. His loyalty comes at a pivotal moment for Arsenal, who sit six points clear at the top of the Premier League after 10 matches and are aggressively pursuing their first league crown in two decades.
Meanwhile, Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane could be gearing up for another major transfer, with reports in Spain claiming he is open to a move to Barcelona next summer.
According to Sport, the England captain will make a final call on his future at the end of the season. Kane — in blistering form under Vincent Kompany with 17 goals in all competitions — has a £57m release clause that becomes active next summer.
Barcelona are reportedly willing to match his current wages, though several Premier League sides are preparing to rival the offer and potentially outbid the Catalan giants. Kane is under contract at Bayern until 2027, but speculation surrounding his next chapter is already gathering pace.
