Former Senate President Bukola Saraki has expressed confidence that the ongoing crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will be resolved in the near future.
Saraki made the remarks on Friday in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, while speaking at a PDP Youth Summit organised by the state chapter to commemorate his 63rd birthday, Gossip News Now reports.
While acknowledging the existence of internal disagreements within the party, the former Kwara State governor dismissed claims that the PDP is in disarray. He described the disagreements as a normal part of party politics and stressed that they should not be seen as a sign of collapse.
“Many people say our party is in shambles. I disagree. Sometimes, it is better to disagree than to agree and stagnate. I believe the PDP will succeed,” Saraki said.
He further disclosed that the aggrieved factions of the party are currently engaging with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to resolve their differences.
“As I speak, the two factions of the PDP are meeting with INEC. I want to assure members that our differences will be sorted out very soon,” he added.
The PDP is presently divided along factions linked to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde; and Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed.
While the faction aligned with Wike produced Abdulrahman Mohammed as acting National Chairman, the Makinde-led faction appointed Tanimu Turaki to the same position.
The party’s internal crisis escalated following the expiration of the tenure of its former acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum.
