The ongoing social media confrontation between Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti and fans of Nigerian pop star Wizkid, popularly known as Wizkid FC, continues to escalate, showing no signs of cooling down despite attempts by some individuals to mediate.
The dispute gained widespread attention after Wizkid’s supporters reacted strongly to comments made by Seun, the son of legendary Afrobeat pioneer Fela Anikulapo-Kuti. Efforts by third parties to restore calm have so far proven ineffective, as neither Seun nor many members of Wizkid FC appear willing to back down.
In a video shared on Instagram, Seun dismissed claims that Wizkid had honored Fela merely by associating with his name or legacy.
Addressing Wizkid directly, Seun stated, “Your attempt to replace Fela has been stopped. Your infiltration into my family has ended, and nobody will ever take you seriously again when you try to cling to that legacy.”
He also criticized Wizkid’s tattoo referencing Fela, urging him to remove it. “If you don’t erase my father’s tattoo from your hand, you will never prosper with that hand. You should replace it with your own father’s image,” he warned.
In another remark seemingly aimed at fellow musician Burna Boy, Seun said, “If Burna Boy could publicly acknowledge that Fela is greater, then who is this short man?”
Seun’s siblings and other members of the Kuti family have also weighed in, issuing stern messages to Wizkid as the online exchange intensified.
Meanwhile, many Wizkid supporters appear to be embracing the drama, turning the heated exchange into viral memes, jokes, and commentary across multiple social media platforms.
Amid the public clash, Wizkid released his highly anticipated documentary, Long Live Lagos, which recently premiered on HBO, drawing further attention to the unfolding controversy.
