Nigerian singer Ceeza Milli has asserted that he played a significant role in the early discovery of Afrobeats star Ayra Starr, claiming he identified her talent long before she became famous.
Speaking during a recent interview on Yanga FM, the singer confidently stated that the Rush crooner cannot deny the impact he had on her career journey.
According to him, he first came across Ayra Starr while he was in a relationship with a woman who served as her school guardian. He further alleged that the young singer stayed with him for a period, stressing that he supported her development during her formative years.
“When I discovered Ayra Starr, I wasn’t really focused on signing or managing artists, but I always enjoyed watching talents grow,” he said. “She can’t deny my influence in her career. I found her when she was very young and still in school. She was my ex-girlfriend’s school daughter, and at some point, she even stayed in my house.”
Ayra Starr later rose to stardom following the release of her self-titled debut EP in January 2021 under Mavin Records, which launched her into the mainstream music scene.
The singer has previously revealed that Mavin Records boss, Don Jazzy, reached out to her in December 2019 after discovering her music and performances on Instagram, where she regularly shared her talent.
Meanwhile, Nene Aderigbigbe, Ayra Starr’s mother, has opened up about her decision to completely sever ties with three close friends, citing deeply personal reasons.
In a post shared on her Instagram page, Nene reflected on the choices she made, questioning whether she may have acted too strongly at the time. However, she explained that each friendship ended due to circumstances that left her uncomfortable.
She disclosed that the first friendship collapsed over a serious breach of trust after the friend shared a private conversation she had with her husband without permission. Feeling betrayed, Nene said she believed personal discussions should remain confidential, which led her to end all communication with the friend.
The second friendship, she explained, ended because of inappropriate behaviour from the friend’s husband, who frequently contacted her and shared personal details about his whereabouts. She said the communication made her uneasy, stressing that her friendship was solely with his wife.
According to her, the third relationship ended due to emotional exhaustion. Nene revealed that the friend, who had been married for more than two decades, constantly called to complain about her husband, leaving her mentally drained.
She added that she did not provide explanations to any of the three friends at the time, stating that protecting her peace of mind was her top priority. To date, she said they remain unaware of her reasons, but she remains confident that her decisions were necessary for her wellbeing.
