Popular Nigerian singer and songwriter, Simisola Kosoko, popularly known as Simi, has expressed her strong love for Nigeria and her hopes for a better nation.
Speaking on the 90s Baby Show, Simi shared how proud she is to be Nigerian, noting that the spirit, energy, and uniqueness of Nigerians are unmatched anywhere in the world. According to her, the Nigerian identity is so distinct that even Hollywood rarely attempts to imitate the accent, choosing instead to mimic other African accents.
Simi lamented the increasing number of Nigerians leaving the country in search of better opportunities. She said if Nigeria provided a supportive and comfortable environment, most citizens would gladly remain in the country.
The mother of one emphasized that her desire for a greater Nigeria stems from deep love and pride for her homeland.
Her words: “My favourite thing about Nigeria is just the spirit of Nigerians. You can’t replicate it. Nobody else can be a Nigerian other than a Nigerian. Even when they fake African accents in Hollywood movies, they never actually fake a Nigerian accent — they always fake East African and South African accents.
“Being a Nigerian doesn’t just come naturally; it feels like home. That’s why I wish the country was better, because I believe nobody would want to leave if things were working.”
