Sophia Momodu, mother of Nigerian Afrobeat star Davido’s daughter, Imade, has dismissed rumours that she prevented her daughter from attending her father’s birthday celebration.
The clarification comes after a Snapchat user suggested that Sophia deliberately kept Imade away from Davido’s 33rd birthday party. Critics wrote:
“Sophia, why don’t you allow your daughter to celebrate with his dad?”
In response, Sophia denied the allegations, insisting that the narratives circulating online are false and deliberately misrepresent her actions.
She emphasised that her top priority is protecting her daughter’s privacy and well-being, urging the public to stop dragging Imade into social media drama.
“You people have been doing this false narrative thing for over 10 years now. And while I try to be as graceful as I can, I’m also a very protective mother. Say whatever you want about me, it’s ok. But leave my child alone. This is non-negotiable. Imade is not a bargaining chip for her mother to conform,” she wrote.
Davido’s birthday celebration over the weekend was attended by friends, family, and his other children, but Imade was notably absent. Sophia’s statement clarifies that her decision was made to safeguard her daughter rather than as a snub to her father.
